The Kharitia....the Street School!

Kharitia is a working group composed of members of the two genres but not related to a certain age group. They are living on the margin of the Egyptian society and follow a recent fabricated law or the so-called Fahlawa (or the cunning intelligence) .However, they denounce the police chase to them every now and then and when they are asked their jobs, they usually answer that they work for the sake of tourists and meet their need whether legal or illegal.

As we are living nowadays an age in which the world impossible vanished. the phenomenon aggravated and Kharitia members developed their performance for they not only bother and neatly cheat tourists while they do shopping but they also developed a new method whereby they intercept tourist vehicle while transporting from a place to another in order to impose their services regardless their nature , time , place . Furthermore, they do their work without authorization from Tourism Ministry or even a membership card of the Tourist Friends Society but they are satisfied with the principles of the street school instead.

It is unreasonable to see the area divided into two separate worlds, before and after the security gates ,while the government spends millions to develop the pyramids area and enclose it with 18 km, fence apart from establishing an electronic monitor system composed of 147 external cameras fixed on the fence; 63 mobile cameras, and 16 cameras in the internal buildings for the purpose of preventing sneaking peddlers and maintaining the historical flavour of the place that dates back to 5000 years ago In addition to highlighting the civilization aspects of the surrounding facilities including hotels, bazaars and tourist stores.

The Tourism Ministry has cast responsibility of combating Kharitia that quickly prevailed, and is still prevailing upon Interior Ministry.

To be professionally honest requires admitting that the police is occasionally raiding uproot this profession which is not a job in the real sense of the job around tourist places not only in pyramids area but also in Down Town streets and other governorates. Yet, we are still in a pressing need of more strict security procedures so as to minimize the phenomenon spread , and encourage tourists going home bearing a positive image about the great Egyptian civilization.

Our analysis to this phenomenon can not be based on the hard economic conditions and unemployment that deferred the dreams of millions of Egyptian young men as potential solutions are available and can only be executed by decision makers.
