Sorenson, visits Marriott’s two Historical Palaces

Cairo Marriott Hotel and Marriott Mena House, Cairo had the pleasure to welcome President and Chief Executive Officer at Marriott International, Arne Sorenson, on his second visit to Egypt.

Mr. Sorenson was welcomed by hotel associates whom mhe greeted personally and expressed his appreciation for all efforts done to ensure offering guests a brilliant brand experience in these unique properties.

As he arrived at the Cairo Marriott Hotel, Mr. Sorenson was greeted and escorted on a tour around the Palace by the hotel General Manager, Mr. Khaled Al Jamal, and senior management. He walked across the Garden Promenade and inspected the hotel’s newly renovated rooms passing by Aida Ballroom. He then stepped out to the central balcony overlooking the palace grounds where he expressed his vision about the future of tourism in Egypt in a short video. “This place is filled with optimism, you’ve got people enjoying the great Egyptian hospitality, the great Marriott hospitality. The gardens behind me are filled with life”, said Mr. Sorenson.

During his stay at the Cairo Marriott, he also met with Minister of Tourism, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat and Minister of Public Enterprise Sector, Mr. Hesham Tawfik . Mr. Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director, Middle East & Africa (MEA) for Marriott International, joined Mr. Sorenson in this visit reassuring the huge potential Marriott International sees in Egypt as a destination.

In the evening, a cocktail reception was held at the Eugenie Salon at the Cairo Marriott Hotel where Mr. Sorenson met General Managers and Owners of Marriott hotels in Egypt.

Another highlight of his visit was touring the newly branded Marriott Mena House, Cairo. Upon his arrival he was welcomed by Verdi’s Opera Aida triumphal march performed by a troop of musicians dressed in colorful pharaonic costumes against the mesmerising backdrop of the Giza Pyramids. He was then escorted by Mr. Omar Tantawy, hotel General Manager for a tour which included the soon to be renovated palace, Marriott guest rooms, restaurants, banquet venues, and the palace’s lavish gardens.”It’s an extraordinary place, we all need to come and steep ourselves in the great history of Egypt”, added Mr. Sorenson.

With Cairo Marriott being the first hotel and Marriott Mena House, Cairo being the latest addition to Marriott International as of February 2018, the two historical landmark hotels in Cairo share the same story. All started by being built by Khedive Ismail for the inauguration of the Suez Canal and being hosts to historical and political events in the last 30 years.
