Abu Simbel city celebrated the unique world phenomenon of sun perpendicular to the face of Ramses II statue at the grand temple on the 22nd October.
That phenomenon is an astronomical, engineering and rare one that occurs twice each year. The first time is on 22nd of October and the second happens on 22nd of February.
Chairman of Abu Simble city, Saber Sanad, said that the event this year coincides with the beginning of tourism season. That phenomenon, he added, was witnessed by a large number of both Egyptian as well as foreign tourists and it was broadcast by various television channels.
It is note worthy that ancient Egyptian engineers resigned the temple of Abu Simbel according to the astronomy movement so as to determine the agricultural season which commensurate with the day on which the phenomenon takes place.
Abu Simbel temple was sculpted in the mountain. The temple’s entrance is surrounded by four of the biggest statues of Ramses II that are sculpted in the rock.
