The Cairo Marriott hotel was the venue for The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017 draw selecting host country for the 31st edition of the tournament. The event was organized by The Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Mr. IssaHayato, Head of CAF, announced the Gabon as the host for the 2017 games. Followed by Mr. Hisham El Amrany, General Secertary of CAF, statement of the qualifying 13 groups of the 52 teams in front of the audience.
The event was honoured with the presence of a number of the football figures and the executive committee of CAF. Quoted from Sepp Blatter, FIFA President, "It's an honor & great pleasure to be here. For me Africa is my home. I have a strong affinity for Africa and African football." Also the football legend and FIFA presidential candidate, Luis Figo, said that he is happy to be in Africa especially Cairo who also tweeted: “It feels like home when I’m with my African friends.” and he loved his stay and he will return to Cairo Marriott.
