The Rommel Cave museum had been closed for renovation for 6 years and is set to open this summer.
Some much needed good news for tourism; Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities announced that the Rommel Cave Museum in Marsa Matrouh will be reopening for visitors this summer after being closed for renovation for 6 years.
The cave, which is one of Marsa Matrouh’s many natural caves, was used by senior Nazi military commander Erwin Rommel during World War II as the headquarters for the Nazi’s North African based division in order to plan their attacks.
The cave was turned into a museum and tourist attraction in 1997. The reopening will unveil new museum display systems, changes to the lighting and security systems, and the development of surveillance cameras. Opening hours will also be extended allowing for nighttime visits.
